Senator José Rodríguez’s statement on temporary injunction of DAPA

Austin – State Sen. José Rodríguez, Chairman of the Senate Hispanic Caucus, issued the following statement on the federal district court ruling, which temporarily halts implementation of the President’s executive order, Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA):

“Tomorrow was to be a day of hope for the more than four million people who contribute their work, their incomes, and their dreams to our society. Unfortunately, that day is now delayed. While I believe the temporary injunction will be lifted, this ruling delays the day when the millions of people eligible for relief can come out of the shadows.

“It is important to note that DACA, the previous executive order dealing with immigrant children, remains in place. People should also continue to prepare their documents in anticipation of the eventual implementation of DAPA.”
