State Sen. José Rodríguez meets with Presidio County leaders

State Sen. José Rodríguez toured Presidio County with local leaders last week. His visit was to include a tour of the Presidio Independent School District, a meeting with local law enforcement to discuss law enforcement needs for border counties, and a tour of the Presidio Port of Entry.

The Senator’s schedule was as follows:

Tuesday, February 7, 2012
8:00 am: Helicopter tour of Presidio County, Marfa Municipal Airport
8:45 am: Tour of Presidio Port of Entry (contact Edna Lara for clearance; [email protected])
9:45 am: Tour of Presidio Fire Department with the City of Presidio’s Director Emergency Services, Cary Skelton
10:30 am: Tour of Presidio Independent School District, including Presidio Elementary’s school-based clinic designed by Dr. Miguel Escobedo of CDC, the wind turbine at Franco Middle School, and the Ciro Rodriguez Solar Panel Project at Presidio High School with Superintendent Dennis McIntyre, and Carlos Nieto, President, Board of Trustees
11:30 am: Lunch with Mayor Lorenzo Hernandez, County Commissioner Eloi Arranda, Dennis McIntyre, Carlos Nieto, and Cary Skelton
1:30 – 3:30 pm: Tri-County Law Enforcement Forum with Brewster County Sheriff Ronny Dodson, Presidio County Sheriff Danny Dominguez, and Jeff Davis County Sheriff Rick McIvor; Location: District Courthouse, 300 N. Highland Avenue, Marfa, TX
3:30 pm: Tour of newly opened Presidio County Jail
4:00 pm: Meeting with Jeff Davis County Judge Grubb and Rod Ponton
5:30 pm: Meeting with members of the Presidio City Council; Location: Presidio Activity Center
6:00 – 8:00 pm: Community meeting in Presidio sponsored by Mayor Lorenzo Hernandez and Presidio County Judge Paul Hunt; Location: Presidio Activity Center

During the 82nd Legislative Session, Presidio, Jeff Davis, Culberson, and Hudspeth Counties were added to Texas Senate District 29 during the redistricting process. Currently, Texas Senate District 29 includes the majority of El Paso County.
