Early voting starts today!

Dear friend:

Early voting begins today.

It is important that you get out and vote. In the Democratic primary we have candidates for all statewide offices. We also have propositions to affirm our values. Among these propositions are a right to quality education from pre-K to 12th grade, and affordable college and career training; universal access to health care; a national jobs program to replace and rebuild infrastructure; and comprehensive immigration reform that protects DREAMERs and keeps families together.

On the Republican side, there is a continue push for vouchers, the discriminatory and anti-business “bathroom bill,” and repeal of Obamacare, which has provided access to healthcare for millions.

The contrast could not be more clear.

Voting is the foundation of our democracy. During the past year, across the country, we’ve seen more and more people engaging in our government by casting their vote. Let’s build on this momentum — I encourage you to vote in this primary and to get ten of your family and friends to vote.

We also have a number of critical local races that will decide the future of our community, whether that’s continued progress or a step backwards. I’m proud to fully endorse these great candidates:

Former County Judge Veronica Escobar for Congress
State Rep. Mary Gonzalez for re-election
County Commissioner David Stout for re-election

Statewide, I am in full support of Congressman Beto O’Rourke for U.S. Senate.

If you have questions about your registration status, you can check with the El Paso County Elections Department, which also has a list of great resources, such as sample ballots and voting locations. Early voting ends March 2; polling hours vary, so you can find your early voting location here and hours here.

Time to vote!
